- 18 or older.
- High-school diploma or GED at most programs.
- Basic math and measurement.
- Driver's license for most programs.
- Drug screen and physical, plus respirator fit testing.

If you are not ready yet
- Asbestos awareness training is often required on renovation work, and having it already is a real advantage.
- Mechanical insulation pays better than residential work. Ask which a program covers.
- A small trade with steady demand, so openings are fewer but less contested.
None of this disqualifies you permanently. Most of it is a few months of work.
