Getting into a glazier apprenticeship

Handling and setting glass with a crew, learning the systems that hold it. Care and communication matter more than strength.

• 18 or older.
• High-school diploma or GED at most programs.
• Basic math and measurement.
• Comfort at height and with heavy, fragile material.
• Drug screen and physical.

These are what most programs ask. Every sponsor sets its own, so check the program page before you rely on any of it.

Aptitude testing and an interview at union programs; contractors often hire on an interview alone.

Local intakes tied to commercial construction. A smaller trade, so openings are fewer but competition is lighter than in the big trades.

We do not list application dates, because no registry publishes them and we will not invent one. Calling the training center and asking is the only reliable way, and it takes five minutes.

• Any construction experience helps, because crew awareness is the safety skill here.
• Curtain-wall work on high-rise projects is the better-paid end.
• Ask about shop versus field: they are different jobs.

None of this disqualifies you permanently. Most of it is a few months of work.
